What the record shows

The subdivision dates to 1977. Sections 1 and 2 were both filed with the Harris County Clerk on September 13, 1977, and the neighborhood was laid out in numbered sections that the county roll still records on every parcel. The plats are public and can be searched by subdivision name.1 The map below shades every parcel by the section it was platted in.

Timberwood by section. Drawn from Harris Central Appraisal District parcel geometry, 2026 roll. The gaps are the streets. It shows 1,014 lots: four in the neighborhood are marked confidential by the appraisal district and are not drawn.

1,018 parcels carry a Timberwood section number, spread across nine sections. The numbering runs up to 10, and there is no Section 8. It does not appear in the County Clerk's plat index1 or anywhere in the countywide appraisal roll.2 The section counts in the table were tallied here from the appraisal district's public data file.2

Section 10 is still being built. It was platted in 2020 and replatted in 2023,1 and 75 of its 76 lots still belong to the builder on the appraisal roll.2 The builder on record is Candlewood Homes.

The houses went up in two waves. No home on the appraisal roll was built between 1985 and 1990.2 Most of the neighborhood dates to the early 1980s and the 1990s, with newer houses scattered among them, a handful built after 2005 and a few after 2015.

Harris Central Appraisal District groups much of the neighborhood under codes beginning 2403, one of them labeled "TIMBERWOOD PT 3,4,6 YB>90".3

Timberwood Park sits on Kingfisher and is kept up by the City of Humble. The city says "The park was established in 1986",4 and the land was set aside as a reserve on the 1977 plat. The city does not say where the 1986 date comes from. See parks.

The streets were named for birds from the beginning.

A separate plat called Timberwood Condo appears in the county records. It is in Houston 77015, about twenty miles from here, and its 160 accounts are not included in any count on this page.2

The rest of the neighborhood's history is not online. Some of it is in county filings, and the rest is with the people who bought here first.

The original developer and builders. Each section plat is on file with the Harris County Clerk with the developer's name on it, and the deed restrictions filed alongside it name whoever sold the land. Pulling all nine plats and their filing dates would give the build order of the whole neighborhood.

Why the numbering skips 8. Section 8 was never filed. The plat index does not say whether it was planned and dropped, or folded into another section under a different number.1

What was on this land before 1977.

What the houses originally sold for. An original closing statement would answer this.

Whether a civic association ever existed. Texas associations covered by Chapter 209 of the Property Code have to file a management certificate with the Texas Real Estate Commission, and that database can be searched by name or location.5 No Timberwood association appears in it. A volunteer civic club would not be listed there.

Photographs. The entrance, a street under construction, the park before the playground went in, a flooded ditch, a Fourth of July.
