What this map can and cannot tell you

It is built from the Harris Central Appraisal District's public roll, the county's parcel geometry, FEMA's flood layer and the US Geological Survey's elevation data. It can tell you what a lot is, when the house on it went up, how big it is, whether the owner lives here, what flood zone it sits in and how many times it has changed hands.

It does not show what a house sold for. Texas is a non-disclosure state, so sale prices are not public. It also names no resident. Companies, builders and government owners are named. For a house, the map says whether the owner lives there and nothing more.

All of this is public record. It comes from files the appraisal district and the county publish for anyone to download, and from FEMA's flood layer. Nothing on this map was obtained privately. What the map does is put records that are already public in one place, and every page links to the source it came from so you can check it yourself. The neighborhood totals are on the Record.

HCAD's records contain errors. This is not a survey and it is not a title search.
